Transition program was created since it is included in the Policies and Guidelines in Special Education in the Philippines Article 1V  1.4.4 Transition program shall be included in the organization of classes.

The transition program was challenging yet reassuring. It was the very first time to conduct this program in this school that’s why it was plan in an experimental-exploratory approach to determine the transition skill that will prepare CSN gain employment in the future. The following Transition Programs are implemented:

FUNCTIONAL ACADEMICS AND COMMUNITY INTEGRATION

Learning modules in Functional Academics is utilized. The modules are found congruent with the current Special Education Curriculum. Learning Technology and livelihood skills are introduced. The students are also taught to learn academic skills  which can help them function as normal as possible in workplaces. Content areas in Reading, Mathematics, Work Education, Health, Music, Arts and Physical Education are included in the educational instructions.  Community works and activities are also conducted that help students integrate with their communities at the same time gain awareness of available community services. Field trips to community centers such as public market, municipal hall, community hospital, church, transportation terminals and shopping malls were piloted so that CSN easily grasped and retained what was taught .

·         GULAYAN SA PAARALAN

In line with the DEP-ED’s program to put up vegetable gardens in school premise to help eradicate malnutrition, the Transition class cultivated patches of soil and created vegetable garden plots on the front, side and back portion of the school. The students planted different vegetable seedlings on seedling beds. Within a week, seedlings started to grow and were transferred to plots. Bountiful harvests were gathered that helped solve the problem thru free feeding program.

·         JANITORIAL SERVICES

A serendipitous collaboration with the Antipolo City Social Welfare  and Development (CSWD) and Antipolo City SPED Center was made through the Cash for Work program which provides monthly allowances for volunteer Antipolo Residents. They were tasked to maintain cleanliness of public places such as community centers, public schools and public hospitals. Five students from the transition class were given slots and were assigned to provide janitorial services in ACSC. The school took this opportunity to provide simultaneous training to CSN. They received lectures and hands-on training in maintaining the orderliness of the school while they experienced receiving compensation for their labor.

·         MANICURE AND NAIL ART

Nail Art training was also introduced. Female transition CSN were taught how to create personalized designs of painting and polishing fingernails and toenails. They learned also the proper way and techniques in applying nail polish. They were oriented on the safe and proper procedures in cutting and cleaning fingernails.

This training showed that Transition students have potentials to thrive in the beauty industry. It only showed that they can successfully work in beauty salons.

·         PACKAGING FOOD ITEMS

Students were taught to repack goods in a presentable manner. They were taught to arrange goods such as candies in an attractive way. They learned to follow hygienic procedures in packing delicate goods such as food products. They also learned the importance of putting labels on the packs which provide information about the goods being sold.

·         REFLEXOLOGY/MASSAGE THERAPY WORKSHOP

With the support of the Antipolo City Livelihood and Cooperative Office (CCLO), the transition class including the parents as well as the teachers were given training in massage/therapy/reflexology. Certified TESDA trainers conducted series of lectures and hands-on-training for 13 weeks which included historical background, guidelines, benefits, techniques and procedures in administering safe reflexology massage. This workshop provided participants necessary skills that will be of great help to the clients and the necessary certification that affirmed their qualification in providing such services to future clients.

·         LIQUID CLEANSER/SOAP PREPARATION

This is another project that helped students  be trained to formulate and bottle an effective cleaning solution for tiled surfaces and toilet bowls. For four weeks, the transition students were taught to measure properly and combine ingredients to produce the correct consistency and mixture of the cleaning solution. Plastic bottles similar to a popular cleaning cleanser were utilized as ampules of solution. Students learned again the importance of putting labels which marked the product its own distinct character. The bulk of product was sold to other people.

·         FOOD PREPARATION/COMMERCIAL COOKING

Development of skills in cooking and food preparation was observed during the training. It was discovered that most of the transition students were better inclined to succeed in food preparation services. Students demonstrated rapid acquisition of skills in cleaning, peeling, cutting, and cleaning vegetables and fruits. They easily learned the basic and essential procedures in cooking such as simple frying, steaming, boiling etc. They were able to prepare fries that were commercially sold in food stalls during our simple school programs. Mashed potatoes which resembled the taste and same presentation seen in popular fast food chains was also one of the dishes  in our school patronized by the consumers.

·         BAKING AND PASTRIES PREPARATION

Two of the best-selling products prepared by the transition class were the Pastillas de Leche and chocolate cups. Bourne out of a series of deliberation among transition class teachers and students, procedures in making these goodies were simplified and modified to suit the needs and abilities of CSN. These were packed and became hit with our visitors as far as Cagayan De Oro. This product was delectable and bought all the packaged goodies.
